Memorial Day 2009

Lest we forget ...

Someone may ask how to observe this solemn day of remembrance and honor. Here are some suggestions:

* visit cemeteries and place flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen

* visit war memorials

* fly the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon

* fly the 'POW/MIA Flag'

* participate in the "National Moment of Remembrance" at 3 p.m. to pause and think about the true meaning of the day

* pledge to aid the widows, widowers, and orphans of our fallen dead and to aid the disabled veterans

However, you choose to remember the day just REMEMBER. Don't forget and don't let their memory fade from our group national consciousness. It is sincerely the least we can do as people who have benefited greatly from their sacrifice.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Michelle ~ Thank you, Michelle. It was indeed a happy day for me and a solemn one, too. It moves me to see so many pause, if even for a short time, to remember and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we could continue to live a life of freedom in such a great country. I will continue to support our troops through my continued service with the American Legion (Atlanta Post #1). Let any veterans you know know that the Legion is here to help them and their families with many benefits and services. I can provide further information should you need it.
